Red Feather Lakes Area Wildfire Defense Project

We will discuss the CWDG Grant -Red Feather Lakes Area Wildfire Defense Project, in which our fire district is participating. Through this grant, we will have funds to help people mitigate their property. We want to share with you the process to obtain this assistance. It will entail you walking your property with a forester, identifying what could be done to harden your property from wildfires. Once a plan is agreed to, the forester will coordinate with contractors to do the mitigation work. This service will be paid for through the grant.

Poudre Canyon Wildfire Community Alliance

Another program of the fire department is the Poudre Canyon Wildfire Community Alliance, which is affiliated with Larimer County. This program conducts Wildfire Mitigation Assessments of properties within the Poudre Canyon Fire Protection District. This program benefits both property owners and the fire district.

This program will help the fire district meet the objectives set out in its Community Wildfire Protection Plan. It aids the district in determining what grants to apply for that will benefit residents. It also provides a way for us to educate property owners on home ignition zone concepts and mitigation work to establish or improve defensible space.

Property owners are provided a detailed report, at no charge, on their wildfire risk assessment and ways they can reduce their risk. They will also learn what mitigation resources are available, what matching funds are present, and what tax credits are available for mitigation work.
